Hello friends and curlers,
Adam Murphy writing from my home office here in Oromocto. This is my first opportunity to address you as director of the NBFFCA and I am truly humbled and honored to have the opportunity. First and foremost I’m truly hoping that this newsletter reaches everyone in good health and finds you at home safe with your families. Our curling season came to an abrupt end and many people’s lives have been turned upside down during these uncertain times. Most of us are active and on the front lines as firefighters and first responders during this pandemic and I thank you for your service. We will come out on the other side of this virus stronger than before and I believe our social and sporting community will have a key role in this.
Having said that, I believe our association is in a good position to build upon our past number of seasons and continue to thrive. We have enjoyed great sportsmanship, superb entertainment and social activities while putting forward a competitive team to represent our province each year, this year being no exception. We will be represented by the Joe Vautour rink from Saint John Fire department. The national championships are being held in Charlottetown this November and I would encourage you to take in the action either in person or follow along via social media. GO TEAM NB!!!
In the upcoming months your executive will be meeting and making plans for the upcoming curling season and the 2021 provincials in Miramichi. We have a strong host Committee lead by chairman John Knowles and we will assist him and his committee as much as possible. There will be a slight change in how we distribute material due to the social distancing rules and events being cancelled but we will forge ahead and get information and materials out no matter what. Our title sponsor is helping us produce and distribute materials, videos, and newsletters, as well they are maintaining our Facebook page along with our website. The first complete year with Metalfab ltd. has been nothing short of amazing. We are looking forward to working alongside Ryan and our other sponsors going forward. Please remember to support our sponsors whenever possible.
As always one of our mandates is to maintain and grow the association. We cannot do this on our own and ask that our membership please help us out by spreading the word to fellow firefighters and friends throughout the province. If you are in a position to help distribute material please contact me as well and together we can cover this province. My goal is to inform every firefighter in New Brunswick that this association exists and that they are welcome to come out and curl. We will discuss incentives for new teams at our next executive meeting and roll those out in our next newsletter. We are also working on an electronic registration form to assist teams with registering for next year’s provincials.
This association is currently seeking bids on a host city for our 2022 provincial championships, as well as our 2024 National championships. For any information on hosting please contact myself at any time. The 2022 provincial host should be determined while we are playing provincials in Miramichi and it would be nice to have a National host city for 2024 determined at that time as well.
In closing, I’d like to wish everyone a safe and healthy spring. We are all in this together and we will all celebrate together when it’s over. Feel free to contact me anytime. Your executive is always open to suggestions and without your participation we will cease to exist.
Take Care and stay safe!!
